Ed Sheeran faces significant scheduling challenges for his current tour after multiple opening acts resigned their positions to support rapper Macklemore, according to reporting from NPR News on Sept. 16, 2026.

The sudden departures leave the international pop star with vacant slots in his performance lineup, according to NPR News. The move signals a growing wave of artist solidarity within the music industry regarding recent controversies involving Macklemore.

Artists Exit Sheeran Tour Lineup

The opening acts, whose names were not immediately specified in initial reports, withdrew from their scheduled appearances to align themselves with Macklemore, according to NPR News. This collective exit forces tour organizers to scramble for replacements as dates approach.

Sheeran has not yet announced new supporting performers for the affected dates. The tour logistics now face increased pressure to maintain the scheduled itinerary despite the loss of the planned opening entertainment.

Industry Response and Tour Impact

The decision by these artists to drop out highlights a moment of friction within the touring circuit. According to NPR News, the move specifically targets Sheeran’s tour as a platform to demonstrate support for Macklemore’s recent public standing.

Tour management continues to evaluate the impact on upcoming shows. Fans holding tickets for the tour await official updates on who will fill the vacant slots before Sheeran takes the stage.
