In this episode of Vera House Unscripted, we discuss a range of Richmond topics including the Dahlgren affair, the 1811 Richmond Theatre fire, and the Grey Lady of the Hawes House.
We start with this year's costumes, built from a Goodwill thrift challenge, before Myke tells the story of Ulric Dahlgren, the 21-year-old Union colonel Richmond was so afraid of that it dug him up four times.
Later in the episode, Perri shares his own unexplained campground encounter and the story of the Grey Lady, a haunting that ended with a skeleton and a tortoiseshell comb unearthed four feet under the Hawes House.
The second half closes with the Bleeding Nun, the night in 1811 when a theatre fire killed 72 Richmonders, including the governor, and the city built Monumental Church on top of the mass grave.
Topics include the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren raid, Elizabeth Van Lew, Libby Prison, Belle Isle, Monumental Church, Gilbert Hunt, the Hawes House, and a lot more.
