Chesterfield Towne Center Plans Interior Renovations and New Tenant Additions

Chesterfield Towne Center owners will launch interior renovations and tenant updates to modernize the shopping mall without converting the property into a mixed-use development, according to reporting from The Richmonder.

The planned upgrades focus on refreshing the existing retail environment rather than following the regional trend of adding residential units or office spaces to traditional mall footprints. According to The Richmonder, the project aims to maintain the facility's core identity as a dedicated shopping destination while improving the aesthetic experience for visitors.

Interior Upgrades and Modernization

The renovation plan includes several cosmetic and functional changes to the mall's common areas. According to reports, crews will install new flooring, updated lighting fixtures, and modern seating arrangements throughout the concourses. These changes represent the first major interior overhaul for the Midlothian landmark in several years.

Management also intends to streamline the mall's layout to better accommodate new retail partners. Unlike nearby projects at Stony Point Fashion Park or the former Cloverleaf Mall site, Chesterfield Towne Center will not incorporate apartments or hotels into its immediate footprint at this time.

New Retail and Dining Tenants

Beyond physical repairs, the mall continues to shift its tenant mix to attract consistent foot traffic. According to The Richmonder, several new businesses have recently signed leases or opened their doors, filling vacancies left by departing national chains. These additions include a mix of local boutiques and specialized service providers.

The strategy relies on the mall's high occupancy rates compared to other enclosed shopping centers in the region. By focusing on interior "facelifts" rather than total redevelopment, the ownership group seeks to stabilize the property's value while avoiding the high costs and zoning complexities associated with mixed-use conversions.
