A Richmond woman described feeling numb after an intruder shot and killed her brother during a burglary at a Church Hill home early Tuesday morning, according to WRIC 8News.

Richmond Police Department officers responded to the 1100 block of North 31st Street following reports of a shooting, WRIC 8News reported. Responding units discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence; he later died from his injuries.

A Family in Mourning

The victim’s sister, who spoke with WRIC 8News but requested to remain anonymous, identified her brother as the man killed in the home. She said her brother was a kind person who did not deserve to die in such a violent manner.

"I’m just numb. I don’t even know how to feel," the sister said to WRIC 8News. "He was a good person. He didn't bother nobody."

The shooting occurred while an individual attempted to burglarize the home, the victim's sister said. She told reporters her brother was trying to protect his property when the encounter turned fatal.

Investigation Into Church Hill Shooting

Richmond Police detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the break-in and subsequent homicide. As of Wednesday, authorities have not released the official identity of the victim or provided a description of any potential suspects, according to police reports provided to WRIC 8News.

The sister of the victim urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Richmond Police Department to help bring her family closure. She said her brother leaves behind a family now struggling to process the sudden loss.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000 or use the P3 Tips app to submit anonymous information regarding the North 31st Street investigation.
