Set sail for a night of treasure, rum and adventure as Richmond’s RIVER CITY PIRATE BALL (21+) returns on Friday, November 6, 2026, presented by After Dark RVA. Inspired by Richmond’s connection to the James River and Virginia’s maritime history, the Pirate Ball will be a great gathering place for swashbucklers, scallywags and creatures of the high seas. The evening features live pirate and sea music from Death By Bellows, armed with accordion, kick drum, kazoo and guitar for sing-along shanties, traditional songs and tales of the sea. Skallywags can also enjoy historic Peasant Dance Lessons with Lady Sophia the Orange (8:30-9:00pm), pirate-themed cocktails and rum concoctions, music throughout the night, immersive decor , themed photo opportunities and a Best-Dressed Pirate & Wench Contest with prizes for those who bring their finest seafaring style. Guests are encouraged to arrive in pirate, Ren Faire, colonial, Victorian or other period-inspired attire, although costumes are not required. The festivities also include a charity food drive and prize raffle benefiting FeedMore.org, with guests receiving a raffle ticket for every two cans donated. Whether you arrive as a fearsome captain, daring deckhand, spirited wench or simply a landlubber looking for an unusual night out, grab your compass, rally your crew and join us in Richmond for an evening of pirate music, dancing, costumes, rum, revelry and adventure on the James.
