On August 27, 2002, construction workers discovered a man's body underneath a pile of bricks in a ravine near a brick company.
More than two decades later, the man remains unidentified.
Why it matters:
Unidentified is not the same as forgotten. The Virginia medical examiner’s office tracks roughly 335 long-term unidentified cases dating back to 1946. The goal is simple: return names to people and closure to families. If you recognize the face—or the details—say something.
How to help:
If you have information that could identify this man, contact the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner: 804-786-3174 or OCME_CENT@vdh.virginia.gov
A 23-year mystery still hangs over Richmond. In 2002, construction workers in Manchester uncovered a man’s body beneath a pile of bricks near Maury Street & East 12th. Time had mummified him, complicating fingerprints and cause-of-death—and investigators are again asking the public for help. They’ve released a 3D facial reconstruction and key details: a Black male, estimated 50–70 years old, 5’2”–5’7”, with size 10 blue slip-on shoes found nearby.
