It’s a new era of music in Richmond: Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront officially opened its doors on Wednesday.

The venue hosted a free ‘Sunset Soundcheck’ in the evening, featuring a trio of local artists. Prior to that, it welcomed the media to hear students a part of Saint Andrews’ ensemble take the stage as the very first performers.

The soundcheck sold out quickly, showing the enthusiasm Richmond neighbors have for the new site. Mayor Dr. Danny Avula described the day as feeling like Christmas morning.

“Top musical acts have been bypassing our city, right, because we have not had the right venue to house space for those artists, and now we are changing that, right?” Avula said.
