Another month, another gravestone meme declaring Google Search dead. Kayleigh, Jenna and Chuck push back on the panic and look at what’s actually happening in search right now.

Search has changed shape, not disappeared entirely. Over 60% of Google searches now end without a click, AI Overviews answer questions directly on the results page, and Google has started rolling out AI Overview reporting data, though it still leaves out click numbers. That shift explains a lot of the falling click-through rates marketers are seeing, and a lot of the fear behind the “dead” headlines.

The team argues most of those headlines exist to get clicks themselves. Fear performs well, but a falling click-through rate doesn’t mean a business is losing customers. If conversions, calls and form fills stay steady, the SEO is working, even when the old reporting numbers look worse.

A few practical takeaways from the conversation:

→ Local SEO still carries weight. A complete, accurate Google Business Profile and a steady stream of reviews still shape whether a business shows up for people nearby.

→ Reviews work as a ranking signal and a trust signal at the same time, and good service creates reviews on its own. Jenna’s dentist story is the example: a good experience got her to leave a review she wouldn’t normally write.

→ Search and social work as one loop, not two separate channels. People check a brand’s social presence to confirm a website is legitimate, and they check a website to confirm what they saw on social.

→ Watch the acronym chasing. The team walks through what happened to sites that leaned hard into AEO and GEO tactics last year: early gains, then a drop once Google caught up. Small sample sizes and fast pivots carry real risk.

→ Test before committing fully. Chuck compares it to how McDonald’s rolls out a new menu item in a handful of stores before a national push. Try a new tactic small, watch what happens and scale what works instead of abandoning the fundamentals.
