What happens when the people behind an award winning Black independent TV series sit down with no PR team, no talking points, and no filter?
In this episode of Growth Unscripted, Devonnte sits down with the full creative team behind Sundays After Church — the series that won Best New Series at the Virginia Black Film Festival and is now streaming on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Indie Tube. Writer and executive producer Eric Brown, executive producer Natasha Boyce Brown, director Ethan X Evans, and producer and actor Brian Dargan came in and did not hold back.
We talk about the CIA using the same playbook as pimps. We talk about how Black churches have abandoned real community and turned into multi level marketing schemes. We talk about the two roles Hollywood gives Black actors and what it took to build a third option from scratch in Richmond Virginia. We cover who really controls power in America and why the people you see out front are almost never the ones making decisions. We cover what it means to tell a story so real you have to stop and ask yourself if you have gone too far. And we cover why Season 2 of Sundays After Church depends entirely on whether people support Season 1.
Eric Brown spent $335,000 of his own money to make this season. He shot it in 10 days. It is on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Indie Tube right now.
Go watch it. Season 2 is written. Your purchase is what makes it happen.
