Design something with AI in the morning, have a neighbor 3D print it by lunch, hold a prototype by dinner. We are building that marketplace live.

This is App 30 of 52 in the 52 Apps in 52 Weeks challenge, streaming live at studio.willmelton.com every Saturday at 1 PM EST and Sunday at 10 AM EST.

The concept: you have an idea but no 3D printer. Your neighbor has a printer but no customers. This platform connects them. Buyers browse a library of licensable designs — think a stock photo marketplace, but for physical objects — and order a print on demand. Replacement parts, mechanical components, universal joints, custom connectors, prototype parts for a pitch deck you need by Friday. A local printer accepts the job, produces it, and same-day delivery gets it to your door.

This is a three-sided marketplace. Buyers need prints. Sellers are hobbyists, small shops, and micromanufacturers running printers in their garage. Designers are engineers, product people, and makers who want passive income from their CAD files. Every transaction goes through the platform. Sellers can upgrade to a premium membership for visibility boosts, priority job routing, and featured placement in the design catalog.

The platform launches with open-source foundational designs already in the catalog — universal joints, common connectors, standard replacement geometry — so there is real inventory to browse from day one. Designers who upload their own work set their own licensing terms and royalty rates. AI-assisted design submission is part of the vision: describe what you need, generate a printable STL or STEP file, submit it for local production, all within a few hours.

Think about what this unlocks for prototyping. You wake up with an idea. You design it with AI tools by mid-morning. You submit it to the marketplace by noon. A local maker has it printed and dispatched by mid-afternoon. You hold a physical prototype by dinner. Run another iteration the next morning. By the end of the week, you have a refined version to show investors. That turnaround does not exist anywhere today, and we are building the infrastructure for it in this stream.

The business model is multi-layered: platform transaction fees on every print job, a premium seller membership tier, designer royalties on every licensed print, and eventually a curated catalog of exclusive designs. There is a lot more to this than what fits in a description, and we will get into the full model during the build.

The stack for today: Lovable for the entire frontend (you can start your own app builds with 10 free credits at https://lovable.dev/invite/S8XSI99), Supabase for the database, auth, and backend functions, Stripe for payments and seller payouts, and the Claude API powering the AI features inside the app.

By the end of this session, we will have the marketplace shell live: printer and buyer onboarding, a browsable design catalog with licensing, a job request and fulfillment flow, and the membership tier structure. Built in public, from zero to deployed.

Watch every session live and catch replays at studio.willmelton.com.
